Cristo Rey Ranch Film Photography
Nestled amidst the rolling countryside of Wisconsin, Cristo Rey Ranch is far more than a charming animal farm.
Cristo Rey Ranch is a living testament to community, compassion, and holistic care. Run by the Congregation of the Sister Servants of Christ the King, this remarkable ranch offers a unique blend of spiritual mission, animal therapy, education, and respite programming.
Since arriving in the area in 1949, the Sisters have created a haven for both humans and animals. Now home to over 300 creatures, ranging from llamas, sheep, and goats to exotics like emus, donkeys, rabbits, horses, pot-bellied pigs, fowl, and even peacocks. Cristo Rey Ranch invites visitors to experience a deep connection with these animals. Walking through the curated gardens, you’ll also encounter aviaries and a serene fish pond.
Cristo Rey Ranch's core mission is powerful.
They create a safe, trusting environment that addresses the physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of children and adolescents. Through learning kindness toward animals, they build self-esteem, responsibility, and empathy. These life lessons extend into adulthood.
In 1992, the ranch launched a licensed respite care program, providing scheduled relief for families of at-risk children. These kids interact with the animals, gaining therapeutic benefits and enjoyment. These programs are designed and facilitated by a team including autism specialists and animal-assisted therapy experts.
Cristo Rey Ranch is a hidden treasure where every interaction is a lesson in wholehearted living.
It's an unusual mix of hobby farm, animal sanctuary, therapy center, and spiritual retreat. Whether you’re planning a school trip, seeking meaningful family time, or longing for a peaceful nature escape, this ranch offers an experience executed with grace and love.
In the quiet corners of the Cristo Rey Ranch, I found my light in the gentle presence of Sister Stephen.
Her wisdom came from the way she noticed beauty in the everyday. Sister Stephen saw something sacred in my art, something I hadn’t yet seen in myself. With patience and faith, she encouraged me to see my gift not as a hobby but as a calling. Inspired by her unwavering belief and spiritual strength, I began to photograph once again with purpose, knowing my creativity was a divine thread meant to be followed.
I teach my son how to use my Leica M6.
He's eager to learn about the 35mm film camera and takes this photograph from behind the fence.
My children teach me so much about life, passion, and purpose. This personal project is forcing me to dive deep into my interests, look through my lens, and see the world in a new light. Finally, I realize my story is unique, and it's time to share it.
