Club 44 Dedication In Mount Calvary Wisconsin

Life doesn't always go as planned, the Club 44 Foundation is proof of that.

2020 doesn't look like we thought it would, but each of us has something to be grateful for.  This season of life has taught me to slow down and appreciate the little things in life.  The cancellations and additional time spent at home forced me to reprioritize my life, which freed up time to go back through my archives of photographs.  I document stories and have been doing so for nearly two decades.  Unfortunately, many of these stories have gone untold because they never became a priority.  Now is the time for change, I'm hear to tell these stories through my lens and the written word.  The process of sifting through decades of photographs is profound.  I've searched long and hard for my purpose in this life.  Finally, I found it hidden in plain sight.  I am a storyteller.

I'm doing something different on the blog this season.  Each week I will share community events that brought us together in the past and will certainly bring us together in the future.  These are the stories I was born to tell.  I hope they make you smile.

The Club 44 Foundation was created in memory of Jamie Mertens.

"Be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody" Jamie lived by these words.  Jamie's legacy will live on through the Club 44 Foundation.

It was truly inspiring to see a man care so deeply for his community and all those who lived in it.  Jamie went out of his way to ask others how they were doing.  His genuine heart warmed the community.  His presence remains, we can feel it.

The Club 44 dedication brought the community together.

Jamie's memorial is located at the Mount Calvary Athletic Club and serves as a concession stand and upper deck seating.  The holyland is known for their love of the American game of baseball.

May we all learn from Jamie and become that somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody.

Mount Calvary Firemen’s Parade

By laura | December 3, 2020

Life doesn’t always go as planned. The cancellation of the annual Mount Calvary Firemen’s Parade is proof of that. 2020 doesn’t look like we thought it would, but each of us still has something to be grateful for.  This season of life has taught me to slow down and appreciate the little things in life.…

Finding Community Is Possible

By laura | November 23, 2020

Finding community is hard, but it’s possible. I’m very proud of the community I live in so I decided to hold a FREE rummage sale in June.  Everything was free; although, I accepted donations for the Club 44 Foundation and Mount Calvary Fire Department.  I know someone needs these clothes and baby items more than we do…

Cristo Rey Ranch Film Photography

By laura | July 27, 2018

Cristo Rey Ranch is fun for the whole family. It’s easy for us to visit because we live so close.  We ride our bikes to Cristo Rey Ranch and enjoy all they have to offer. I teach my son how to use my Leica M6. Eager to learn about the 35mm film camera, as a…

Support Small Business

By laura | March 25, 2020

It’s more important than ever to support small business. We stock our freezer with meat from our local market, Salchert Meats.  We continue to shop local to support small business, something that has always been a priority for us.  My husband prepares grilled peppercorn tenderloin with mushroom cream sauce.  We pop the cork on a…

Build Community Through Storytelling in France

By laura | March 2, 2022

I’m in France so I can build community through storytelling. It may have taken me longer than most to find my true passions, but once I began searching, I realized I was doing them all along.  A powerful moment happens when you realize you’re doing meaningful work that you were called to do.  One of…

Elkhart Lake Wisconsin At Dawn

By laura | March 26, 2025

Elkhart Lake at Dawn: A Solitary Stroll The town of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, still sleeps as I step onto its quiet streets with a camera in hand.  In these early hours, a hush makes the world feel untouched, as if I’m walking through a painting that hasn’t quite dried. I wander the historic streets and…

Hawaiian Islands Unplugged Adventures

By laura | June 5, 2025

The Art of Letting Go: Unplugged on the Hawaiian Islands There are moments in every life when the path forward suddenly becomes unclear.  For me, that moment arrived not in a studio or gallery, but barefoot on the shores of the Hawaiian Islands. I traveled to the islands to unplug from the hustle, social media,…
