Club 44 Dedication In Mount Calvary Wisconsin

Life doesn't always go as planned; the Club 44 Foundation is proof of that.

This season of life has taught me to slow down and appreciate the little things in life, forcing me to reprioritize.  As I go back through my archives of photographs, I realize I have so many untold stories.  We all do.  The process of sifting through decades of photographs is profound.  I've searched long and hard for my purpose in this life.  Finally, I found it hidden in plain sight.  I am a storyteller.

I'm doing something different on the blog this season.  Each week, I will share community events that brought us together in the past and will certainly bring us together in the future.  These are the stories I was born to tell, and I hope they make you smile

The Club 44 Foundation was created in memory of Jamie Mertens.

"Be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody," words Jamie lived by.  Jamie's legacy will live on through the Club 44 Foundation.

It was truly inspiring to see a man care so deeply for his community and all those who lived in it.  Jamie went out of his way to ask others how they were doing.  His genuine heart warmed the community, and his presence remains; we can feel it.

Jamie's memorial is located at the Mount Calvary Athletic Club.

It offers a concession stand and outstanding upper-deck seating.  The Holyland is known for its love of the American game of baseball.

May we all learn from Jamie and become that somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody.

Sister Stephen Of Cristo Rey Ranch

By laura | June 25, 2020

In the quiet corners of the Cristo Rey Ranch, I found my light in the gentle presence of Sister Stephen. Her wisdom came from the way she noticed beauty in the everyday.  Sister Stephen saw something sacred in my art, something I hadn’t yet seen in myself.  With patience and faith, she encouraged me to…

Finding Community Is Possible

By laura | November 23, 2020

Finding community is hard, but it’s possible. I’m very proud of the community I live in so I decided to hold a FREE rummage sale in June.  Everything was free; although, I accepted donations for the Club 44 Foundation and Mount Calvary Fire Department.  I know someone needs these clothes and baby items more than we do…

Elkhart Lake Wisconsin At Dawn

By laura | March 26, 2025

Elkhart Lake at Dawn: A Solitary Stroll The town of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, still sleeps as I step onto its quiet streets with a camera in hand.  In these early hours, a hush makes the world feel untouched.  I wander the historic streets and admire the vintage storefronts, my footsteps the only sound on the…

Hawaiian Islands Unplugged Adventures

By laura | June 5, 2025

The Art of Letting Go: Unplugged on the Hawaiian Islands There are moments in every life when the path forward suddenly becomes unclear.  For me, that moment arrived not in a studio or gallery, but barefoot on the shores of the Hawaiian Islands. I traveled to the islands to unplug from the hustle, social media,…

We are sharing the Illuminating Women Project online so you can feel inspired. Memories come flooding back to me as I walk through the doors of Salchert Meats.  It seems like yesterday that I was rocking in one of their chairs enjoying the flavor of my cherry Dum-Dum. It fills me with joy knowing that this fifth-generation business is…
